Yale-NUS College was established in April 2011 by the President of the National University of Singapore, Professor Tan Chorh Chuan and the President of Yale University Emeritus, Professor Richard Levin. It is the very first liberal arts college in Singapore and one of its kind in Asia. It is an autonomous college under the National University of Singapore. It offers a four year fully residential program that is designed to prepare students for conquering the challenges of the modernized world.

The college offers a common curriculum for the first two years with electives to refine their skills and develop an integrated problem-solving ability. Post completion of a common curriculum, students can select the major from any 14 subjects offered, including Anthropology, Art & Humanities, Economics, Environmental Studies, Global Affairs, History, Life Science, Literature, Mathematical Computational & Statistical Sciences, Philosophy, Politics & Economics, Physical Sciences, Psychology to Urban studies. All the subjects offered as majors can also be elected as minors. Along with that, students can also select from two additional independent minors, including Chinese Studies and Global Antiquity.

The students of Yale-NUS also have the option of going for Concurrent Degree and Special Programmes. These are designed for students who are interested in public health, policy or the environment alongside their major subjects by associating them with the top institutions in the respective fields. The students of law and medicine can also go for a double degree in law through special programs by achieving certificates from Yale-NUS & Duke-NUS Liberal Arts or Duke-NUS Medical School.

Yale-NUS believes in catering to the development of their learners and hence believes in a small ratio of students and teachers of 8:1 and a class size of 18 to 20 students. It also follows a Permanent Resident and International Student ratio of approximately 50:50. Among this, the percentage of male students selected is 46 percent, and the female ratio is 54 percent. Yale-NUS has a 15-acre campus with three residential colleges, namely Saga, Elm, and Cendana. The residential colleges have suites, single rooms, and common rooms.

Faculty members and college staff also reside in all the three colleges to provide help and assistance to students. The campus and residential college facilities include sky gardens, common lounges, a dining hall, a counseling centre, a café, a town plaza, a dance studio, a fabrication lab, a fitness studio, a library, a prayer room and a multipurpose hall. The college has an impressive employment rate of 90.4 per cent with a gross starting salary of S$33,700.
